New Books for the Summer

Summer is here and what's that smell? Compost! If you want to make a change from flinging table scraps over your shoulder we have several books to help you but you'll have to provide your own worms. Check out Worms Eat My GarbageComposting Basics, and The Rodale Book of Composting.

If you're not in the mood for composting and are worried about your financial future, fear not. Brush up on Investing: all-in-one for dummies and You Don't Have to Drive an Uber in Retirement. Of course, you might actually want to drive an Uber in retirement. If you are surrounded by relatives who think you shouldn't be on the road at all, try Think Again: how to reason and argue and exert your Critical Thinking for Strategic Intelligence.

Does your idea of competent driving skills involve weaving but minding your own business? Do people refuse to get in a car if you're driving? Perhaps you need to relocate. The perfect place might be miles and miles away on a red planet.  Don't worry, we have Life on Mars: what to know before we go ready for your perusal. Is Mars too close to your in-laws?  You could spread your wings and go Chasing New Horizons: inside the epic first mission to Pluto .

If you prefer to stay closer to home there are cars that absolutely never, ever burst into flames. Skeptics and people who vow to never give up the exhilarating thrill of WHERE DID THAT DOG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD COME FROM might be interested in Self-driving Cars or No One at the Wheel.

Can't afford one of those fancy self-driving cars? Wondering if your life is endless Live, Work, Work, Work, Die or if everyone like you is Squeezed: why our families can't afford America? How about taking some start-up tips from Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos? Hold on, she's probably not going to give you good advice on anything but where to buy black turtlenecks - but you can read all about the fascinating rise and fall of Theranos in Bad Blood: secrets and lies in a Silicon Valley startup.

After you've shed your itchy, overpriced black turtleneck, sit back and relax with some new books found in the Popular and Nook sections of Jessup Library. We have Liar Liar by James Patterson (sounds like he was on to Elizabeth Holmes), Less by Andrew Greer, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Poppy Done to Death by the prolific Charlaine Harris.
