Williams Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that affects about 1 in 10,000. While it causes some physical and mental deficits such as distinctive facial features, cardiovascular problems, and intellectual disabilities that can cause learning problems and low IQ’s, almost all individuals with the disorder are known to have a strong affinity and/or ability for music. People with Williams Syndrome are hyper-aware of sounds, rhythms, and pitches, and music therapy can often help them overcome other educational struggles.
