Meet Our Regulars: Katherine Strickland

There are many students who come to the library on a regular basis, and it got us wondering why.  What do they like about the library?  What keeps them coming back?  Meet Katherine Strickland, nursing major and frequent visitor to the Jessup Library.

Q: Why do you come to the library?
KS: We utilize the study rooms a lot. It is the one place to go on campus to study as a group. I don’t think I would have made it into the nursing program without the study group. I have two young children, and I can’t get work done at the house. It’s like having a cubby with no distractions.

Q: How often do you come to the library?
KS: We meet as a study group on Monday and Wednesday. I come at least three times a week but usually every day. Today is Friday, and I don’t have classes, but it is a great time to get my work done while my children are in daycare and I can concentrate.

Q: What do you like about the library?
KS: I really like the study rooms. There are TVs we can plug our computers into to see study materials as a group. There are nursing books in the library if we need to reference them. We can print things out when we need to.

Q: What are you studying at Piedmont and what are your future goals?
KS: I am looking to graduate in May 2021 with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) degree. I went to college straight out of high school and had a little too much fun. This second go round, I am taking college much more seriously.

Q: What advice do you have for other students?
KS: I have full custody of my children and don’t get child support. Some days are really hard. I would tell students to take things one day at a time, one problem at a time. You can accomplish your goals if you concentrate on the small things. Don’t get overwhelmed by looking at the big scheme. Some days it feels like an avalanche. I would also recommend the G.O.A.L. laptops. That program saved me when my laptop broke. Be sure to ask about it before the semester ends.
