On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. addressed a crowd of 250,000 with the Lincoln Memorial at his back and the reflecting pool in front of him. King gave one of the most important speeches of our modern age that day. An
advocate for peaceful protest, King believed that battles could be won
without shedding blood, that those fighting for Civil Rights had to be above
those who fought against them. His
dream was that everyone would be equal as was promised in the
Declaration of Independence and that no matter a man or woman’s creed,
race, religion, or ethnicity, all would be able to come together as humans. He believed our similarities, and not our differences, would bind us together.
