#fridayreads: National Novel Writing Month

November is National Novel Writing Month. As you can see from the photo above, at least one member of Jessup Library staff is hard at work on what we think will be a blockbuster titled "Good Grammar Won't Banish a Pandemic." Does your writing consist mainly of text messages and Twitter rants? We have news for you: the book You Are a Writer (so start acting like one) might have tips on how to crumple your discarded drafts so the paper takes up the least amount of space. Or you could get more relevant advice from Stephen King in his book On Writing: a memoir of the craft.  If the idea of writing anything makes you break out in a cold sweat, dry yourself off, don't procrastinate until tomorrow, and check out Writing Today. Want to learn how to make your fiction engaging? Try The ABC's of Writing FictionThe Modern Library Writer's Workshop, or Writing Tools: 50 essential strategies for every writer

If you would like to read an electronic book that sets out steps for writing (screaming is definitely a step) we have Before Your Write Your Novel: essential skills for the first-time novelist, and Writing Fiction: an introduction to the craft. November only has 30 days, but you can continue your writing year-round. Jessup Library is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. if you need a quiet place to study and write.  Please scream into the void silently.
