#fridayreads: Nobel Prize Day
December 10 is Nobel Prize Day, when the Nobel Laureates receive their award. Nobel Prizes are awarded in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. If you were waiting for a call from the awards committee and were disappointed, you are not alone.
Saul Bellow, awarded the 1976 Nobel Prize for Literature wrote that "People can lose their lives in libraries. They ought to be warned." Obviously people are not literally losing their lives, but they can temporarily set them aside while they get lost in books.
Jessup Library would like to offer an escape through the written (and electronic) page. We have books written about as well as by Nobel Laureates. Just a few from our collection for your consideration: God Help the Child by Toni Morrison, The Poetry of Pablo Neruda, Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie, a tale of love & fallout, Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela, and Night by Elie Wiesel. Electronic titles include The Nobel Peace Prize: what Nobel really wanted and Nobel Prize Women in Science.
