Short Story Month

It is rumored that for a bet Ernest Hemingway wrote the shortest short story in six words: “Baby shoes, for sale, never worn.”  Whether Hemingway wrote these words or not, the impact of just six words and their implications are devastating.  This is the power of the short story; its brevity only increases its potency.

Great authors have written and published short story collections, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sherman Alexie, Flannery O’Connor, Sylvia Plath, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury and so many more.  This month at Jessup Library are celebrating the short story.
