#fridayreads: Queen Elizabeth I Coronation
On January 15, 1559 Jessup Library ran out of books. Wait, let's begin again: on that day Elizabeth I was crowned queen of England and Ireland. She was 25 years old. Once she became her most majestic royal highness her duties may have cut into precious reading time. But those of you who have not yet become royalty (never say never!) can read all about Queen Elizabeth I and Tudor society in several books we have patiently waiting to serve you.
To start: The Hidden Lives of Tudor Women (mystery, intrigue, endless laundry), The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England (wherefore art thou, indoor plumbing?), The Virgin Queen (Virginia is named after her), Elizabeth and Mary: cousins, rivals, queens (there can only be one queen per country), and The Life of Elizabeth I (a sensible, non-nonsense title that reveals no secrets),
If electronic books are your preference, please try Bad Queen Bess?: Libels, Secret Histories, and the Politics of Publicity in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth I (is there such a thing as bad publicity?), or the less sensational Queen Elizabeth I.
