Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Wikipedia

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

A leader in the civil rights movement, King was a proponent of civil disobedience, a method that led to many sit-ins in 'white's only' restaurants and segregated swimming pools.  The bravery of these people led to the outlawing of segregation laws.

King advocated for non-violent protest to change the way that an entire country treated a race of people, and succeeded.  He is an esteemed leader whose life was cut much too short, and his ideas are still venerated to this day.  On this day, we celebrate the man and his ideals so that we can look to the past to determine what to do in the future.
