Thank you for your continued support and
patronage!
As
we come to the one year anniversary of Covid-19 beginning to impact our lives
and our community, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued
patronage in these tough times as well as highlight some of the ways we can
still help you in your journey of continued education.
Over the
past year, we have continued to loan out materials, including over 1,000 last
semester alone, more than 400 were physical books! Keep us in mind as you
continue the spring semester – we can send electronic files and even ship
physical copies if coming in during this time is too difficult!
Speaking of coming in, we have been
able to follow social distancing and disinfecting guidelines to
control the spread of Covid-19, while also being one of few college libraries
open to our students and the public! While we of course are not seeing as many
students, faculty, and community members as usual, more than 1,200
patrons visited us during the fall semester!
Many of
those who visited us last semester were interested in our Rooms to Zoom. Last month alone, we
had 42 students attend class virtually in one of our study rooms. These rooms
provide a quiet space and excellent internet access for students, on a first
come first serve basis, to attend their virtual classes. So, if you are like many
of us and struggle to focus at home with all its distractions, please consider
joining class from our private, quiet, and clean Rooms to Zoom!
Not ready to
come into the library right now, but need a laptop to help with attending
classes or doing homework? Don’t forget to apply
for a GOAL laptop on our website! Last semester we loaned over
60 laptops to students and have received more to be able to lend out to those
who qualify!
One of the best features of the
library is the ability to get help from our wonderful and knowledgeable
reference librarians who are still hard at work and available to help you with
any of your research questions! We have a
24/7
online chat service that you can use to contact our librarians and
librarians around the world for help with any topics you may need!
Want to try
to find answers on your own first? Well, don’t forget about our wonderful library
catalog and research databases with audio, visual, multimedia, and many other
types of resources! Last semester, over 18,000 searches were conducted through our QuickSearch library catalog, and
our different databases and
search engines were also quite popular with online research! We noticed that some
of your favorite databases are EBSCO, JoVE, Stash, and Kanopy. Those databases
had well over a couple thousand views and searches - each! While we love those
databases too, we also have wonderful databases in
Academic
Video Online, Films on Demand, Gale, ARTstor, Cambridge Core Ebooks, and many
more!
Need help
finding a resource that we don’t have? Try our Interlibrary
Loan program! During the fall semester, Betty Sue Jessup
Library loaned over 700 resources to students at other colleges and our
students borrowed many resources as well! If we don’t have what you are looking
for, we will try our very best to help you get it!
And finally, thank you for your
continued support of our blog! We love writing these blogs for you all and
enjoy your feedback on them! We can tell they are a favorite to many because
last semester alone, we had almost 700 views on our blogs! Thank you for taking
the time to read these so we can continue to write them!
Thank you
for your continued patronage and support over this past year and always! We
look forward to continuing to help support you in your learning!
The Betty Sue Jessup
Library Staff
