Non-Fiction Literature Month
Truth is stranger than fiction...
So many tales that seem fantastical--even out of the realm of possibility--are true. As humans we communicate by telling stories that have happened to us or others in order to entertain or to teach. Remember that story that your dad has told you a thousand times as a cautionary tale about when he was a kid? Or maybe that amazing story your mom told you about your grandfather and his exploits in the war? We find comfort and intrigue, amusement and sorrow in the true stories we hear throughout life.
That is why this month celebrates non-fiction literature! From a fierce 15th century countess in Italy in The Tigress of Forli to Jack the Ripper, enjoy learning about people of the past. Discover the art of Artemisia Gentileschi and the story of a millionaire who searched tirelessly for Shakespeare's first folio in The Millionaire and the Bard. Pirates, the Dust Bowl, the Trail of Tears, Norse myths, reincarnation, you name it, Jessup Library has a story for you!
The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard
