Page to Screen Month
Do you read the book before watching the movie, or do you watch the movie and then read the book? Translating a book to the screen can be challenging and perhaps truthfully the screen version is more of an interpretation, or even a new entity entirely. This month we are delving into the books that have been made into TV shows and films.
From comic books such as The Walking Dead to the enormously popular Harry Potter, books have been made into successful TV shows and films throughout the last century, going back all the way to 1901 when a film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, titled Scrooge, or Marley’s Ghost, was made into a silent film, and Gulliver’s Travels in 1902 titled Gulliver’s Travels Among the Lilliputians and the Giants. Even Mickey Mouse portrayed Gulliver in 1934!
Amongst our collection, we have oodles of books that have been adapted for the big and small screen. Below is a short list of what we will have on display this August! Happy reading!
