Hispanic Heritage Month
This September we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in order to give appreciation to the Hispanic and Latino community that has been an integral part of America's past, present and future. This month at Jessup Library, we are exploring the historical roots of Hispanic Americans with books that delve into the past. From the Aztecs to the Inca to Havana, there are books about them all! Read about the meeting of Aztec emperor Montezuma and Spanish Conquistador Cortes and the tragic consequences for the native population in the book When Montezuma Met Cortes. Or, take a look at The Art of Mesoamerica: Olmec to Aztec and experience the extraordinary paintings, carvings, architecture and jewelry of the early Mesoamericans.
If you are more interested in fiction, check out I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, or Julia Alvarez's Afterlife. We also have Isabel Allende's classic House of the Spirits or check out Chilean author Pablo Neruda's beautiful poetry!
