🔎Once Upon A Crime...

Crime is something that increasingly seems to fascinate the public, whether it be true crime shows, podcasts, books, or fictional stories about murders, thefts, or even spies. The world has no lack of crime stories for the public to devour and Jessup Library is sharing our collection of books that entertain and inform about the world of crime.

We'll begin with Erik Larson's Devil in the White City, which tells the story of how America's first known serial killer H.H. Holmes built an elaborate house with booby-traps in order to murder his victims which he lure from the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. This book is told in an easy to read story that transposes the history of the building of the World's Fair with the devil that lurked among it. If that sounds a bit too heavy for you, try Charlaine Harris's A Bone to Pick, a cozy mystery starring Aurora Teagarden. This novel, written by the same author who penned the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) book series, is an easy, light read that follows the trail of an unsolved murder!

To explore the opposite side of the criminal world, try Mindhunter: inside the FBI's elite serial crime unit, which delves into the cases of SA John Douglas. Or, if you're looking for fiction, check out John le Carrés classic spy novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy which takes place during the Cold War and follows the story of the deceptively quiet, unassuming agent George Smiley who works to catch a traitor to MI6.

Happy Reading!
