New Books for April!
Spring has sprung and with new flowers comes a batch of new books from the Betty Sue Jessp library. Here are some new-to-us titles that might be the new-to-you idea you’re in search of for that final paper!
Emerging technologies will continue to affect us all in new ways, and we’ve got two new titles to help you use these technologies, not just be affected by them. In The Truth About Crypto, Ric Edeleman teaches you everything you need to know about digital commerce in one accessible, easy-to-read guide. Explaining everything from the code, to the markets, to the regulations and taxes trying to catch up, Edelman gives you the tools you need to make the choices that are right for you. This useful title also includes real answers to your concerns: that crypto is too risky, too new, or just a scam.
Or maybe it’s AI that’s got you in a twist, in which case check out Verity Harding’s AI Needs You. A leading expert in the field, Harding draws inspiration from innovations like the internet which did deeply transform our world but spelled neither utopia nor the apocalypse, just change. Harding gives us a sense of what AI could actually mean for us, leaving the reader with exactly the plea the title suggests: AI needs you to be the best things it can be.
If you are looking to history to find answers about the present, you might also check out Colin Elliot’s Pox Romana. It might not be the Black Plague or the AIDS epidemic, both of which drew many comparisons at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Elliot makes a strong case for revisiting this earlier plague that some suggest was both the first pandemic, and the cause of the decline and fall of the roman empire. Which, by the way, is the title of another classic book you can find at the Betty Sue Jessup Library.
Or maybe you’re looking for some lighter reading for entertainment, in which case you might enjoy Eat, Poop, Die by Joe Roman. This lighthearted tour across ecosystems and biomes takes you into those daily activities which constitute animals’ lives and in the process keep the world (of nutrient cycles) turning.
Find these titles and so many more in the New Book section. And if there’s something specific you’re looking for, librarians are always available to connect you with the right resource.
Happy Spring!
